Many people want to start their own businesses, but due to lack of capital they then decide to stay with the safer option and work until they retire. If the MLM Company claim to sell miracle products or promise enormous earnings, ask the promoter to substantiate claims.

Don't pay or sign any contracts in an "opportunity meeting" or any other pressure-filled situation. Insist on taking your time to think over your decision. Talk it over with a family member, friend, accountant or lawyer/solicitor.

Do your homework! Avoid plans that have extremely high requirements each month before you can start earning money. Check if they are a member of the Direct Selling Association.

Remember that no matter how good a product and how solid a network marketing plan may be, you'll need to invest sweat equity as well as $'s or £'s for your investment to pay off.

Study the pay plan, ask questions if you do not understand how you will be rewarded for your hard work.
