Since we began, in the mid-1980's with a newsletter we mailed to business owners, we have always sought to distinguish our content from the 'usual fare" and to report on items uniquely relevant to mainstream businesses, privately held and family owned.
Our objective is to provide you with resources that will provide a framework for understanding how to identify, understand, and solve the variety of challenges you will encounter when building your advisor team - who will help you through each issue you and your family must deal with if you expect to survive and prosper in the 21st. Century.
It is vitally important, no matter how secretive you have been in the past, that you be willing to ask for help - and then able to accept it.

To those of you for whom asking for help is so difficult, remember this - "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always be where you already are." Nothing is easy!
A key ingredient to taking action is to be sure it is the right action. That means you must identify family goals by building a consensus about the direction everyone wants the family and the business to go in the future.
Much has been written about managing the differences that separate us - however, you will find when you begin the process of having strategic communications among yourselves, that you probably agree on most things, you've just never talked about it, so you don't know it.
Once the planning is underway a time will come when you must put it on paper.
Chances are you (along with your advisors) will have to redesign the business organization. Sometimes it must be recreated from the ground up.
This is something to embrace since it is the mission of the business to make the family's dreams come true - not the other way around.
